St Michael’s Piano Quartet consists of Anna Gendler, violin, Melissa Hamilton, viola, Theodore Buchholz, cello, Alexander Tentser, piano.

St Michael’s Piano Quartet has recently performed Piano Quartets by Schumann and Beethoven in the St Philip’s Friends of Music Series.

Alexander is one of the organizers and presenters in the 2013 and 2015 Shaol Pozez Memorial Fine Arts Symposiums on Jewish Music. In the 2013 Symposium his presentation focused on the “Jewish Influences in the Music of Dmitri Shostakovich.” He also performed a program of Asia’s and Shostakovich’s works including Symphony #13 “Babi Yar.” The articles presented in the symposium appeared in the book edited by Dr. Tentser and published by the Cambridge Scholars Publishers in May 2014. In the 2015 Symposium he presented a lecture on the music and life of Mieczyslaw Weinberg, and performed a recital with an Israeli-born cellist Amit Peled.

Anna Gendler, violinist

Anna Gendler, graduate of the Moscow Conservatory in Russia, has been a member of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra since 1991. She performed with the Phoenix Symphony, Tucson Symphony String Quartet, Flute Trio, Daystar Chamber Players, and also with her husband, Alexander Tentser, in a violin and piano duet. In the summer she performs with the Lake Placid Sinfonietta in New York, “Arizona Musicfest” in Carefree, AZ and “Music in the Mountains” Festival in California.

Being an accomplished chamber musician she also dedicates her time to children’s musical education in Tucson. She is a teaching artist for the OMA Project (Opening Mind through the Arts), and a studio teacher.

Anna is also on the Music Faculty at Pima Community College in Tucson, Arizona.
